Southern Vanity will become Southern Savvy ... launching Sept. 2008
Publisher's Note Ready, Set, Get Savvy! It is a season of change and with summer just around the
corner- what’s a girl to do? I can remember thoughts of summer as those glorious
days of basking in the hot, scorching sun, swimming, playing sports, no hat, no
sunscreen—wasn’t that some big silver reflective device you held under your chin
anyhow? All I made sure to have handy was my organically blended bottle of baby oil
and iodine. My, how times have changed! You might also notice a few changes about
Southern Vanity if you are one or our loyal readers from the past five years. Namely, I
am not one of the two beautiful ladies that have previously graced this page in prior
years. I must say Thank You to Allison Hollingsworth, our previous and esteemed
Publisher; Donana Galloway, as our former magnificent Managing Editor; Narisha
Johnson, graphic artist extraordinaire; and every mom, woman and child (men—you
too!) who has supported the magazine. Not only do I dedicate this issue to my late
father, but to each of you as well.
After years of experience as an entrepreneur with an affinity for start-up projects
and acquisitions, I wanted to bring to publishing something exciting, refreshing and
never seen before. This issue is a sneak peak at a portion of what you will see when we
unveil our new look in the premier issue of Southern Savvy. We will also be the first to
stand behind our name as the sole by invitation only magazine in the market. Meaning,
I consider each advertiser in the publication to be my personal referral to you, so
not just any business will do. Make sure and stay tuned to the website, as well as our
offices, to get the latest up to date schedule of parties and events. This is going to be
the beginning of a beautiful friendship. On another note, I must be honest and share
how funny it feels to know you are reading this thinking I must be that “glamour girl”
at the bottom of the page—thank you for working magic Cheryll and Wade—when
in reality, after a few weeks of working on the deadline for this issue, preparing to
announce some BREAKING NEWS, getting ready for summer and the end of school,
mending a 10-year-old with a broken tooth and a two-year-old with an ear infection, “saving” our stranded cat from the gutter and having no solid sleep for, well, forever I
guess—I must confess I am curled up in a chair at this wee small hour of the morning
looking quite a mess! Some of you may think I must have taken some editorial liberties
and embellished a bit, but I know many of you have probably had a very similar
week. I know our team around the office sure has! Go Team!
One of the passions that has driven me most of my life is to try and explain
to women that anything is possible—if only you believe in yourself. It will be our
mission and our desire at Southern Savvy to continue to bring you a magazine that
can speak to you on a number of different levels—whether you are a career woman,
working mother, single mom or stay at home mom. At the end of the day, it doesn’t
really matter—we are all connected by the female ties that bind us together. We are
here to bring you stories and topics that will motivate and inspire you. And fabulous
fashions too! So please, stay tuned! Thank you to everyone
who put their heart and soul into this issue-and
my featured guests-you are all amazing! Last but
not least, it just wouldn't be complete if I didn't say
I love you to my two precious angels, Liam and
Alexa-"Mommy Loves You!"
